Polythene
Environment is the most precious thing for the people. Actually, the man cannot serve environment. But knowlu or unknowly people destroy this valuable environment in different ways. Excessive use of polythene is one such major issue.
Polythene has become a part and parcel in our day, today life people use polythene to wrap their foods and goods. Not only that, all most all the items have been pack in polythene wrappers.
Polythene are so popular among the people since, they are cheap and easy to use. By today polythene has created lot of environmental problems. Many people in the world, have a habit of throwing polythene carelessly to the environment. As a result of this, we can see heaps and heaps of polythene, Either side of the road. These polythene don't decay and this causes land polution and land infertility. Not only that polythene block sewege system and water resources. This has led to floods in more city areas.
According to the recent servey carried out by university of colombo, the use of polythene has increased by 200% during the last 2-3 years. Think how pathetic the situation is.
Unfortunately discarded polythene wrappers . Act as mosqui to breeding places. It is said that these polythene wrappers are one of the main reasons to increase the Dengue-meaners in our country.
Today many animals are died as a result of eating this non-decaying polythene. This is very sad state of affairs.
Any how now time has come for us to think twice about the use of polythene recently government has taken a commendable decision by burning some types of polythene. So far it has not been fruitful.
Using 3R method like reduce,recycle and reuse is one of the best place in to minimize this problem up to some extend.
Burning polythene is not a suitable solution for this problem. Because polythene releases harmful gases and subtances to the people and environment.
Using reuseable bag like cloth bags and reeds bag is a possible way to minimize this problem.
Any how now time has come to all of us to create an environment free from polythene.

ReplyDeletePolythene affects the entire environment. It is difficult for a human being to get rid of polythene at once. It's a two or three year plan. Banana tree can be used as a substitute for polythene. After harvesting, the banana tree is cut down. If you get yarn from that banana stem, you have to create a lot of things like bags, cloth, shoes, footwear etc. In order to do so, our youth must be committed to this.
