T.V. AND CHILDREN

There are several sources of getting information in the world today T.V, Internet, Books, Radio and Newspaper are some of them. Out of all these sources still T.V. is regarded as the most powerful medium. The world is changing day by day. So we can learn about all the latest happening of the world through T.V. amd because of this T.V. has greatly affected to the behavior of its views.

T.V. is a good source of information for children. There are various programmes for children. Educational programmes, do yo know contests, cartoons, children's plays and talented shows are some of them. These programmes are very interesting adnd educative.

But there are some programmes that are not suitable for children. It is said that violent actions, adult shows and certain advertisement are harmful for our children. As well as there are public opinion that most of the T.V. programs make children violent. Small children are always in the habit of imitating others. They can't understand the difference between real life and screen life. So these small children tend to imitate their favorite characters. Since children love, adventures and excitement amd they try to imitate what is going on T.V. This leads to many disasters.

Addiction to T.V. is another negative aspect. According to a survey carried out by the University of Colombo. It is said that 88% of the child population watch T.V. till mid night. Apart from that 70% of children watch teledramas that are adult oriented.

The servey further reveals that only 20% of children watch programs that are suitable for them. Think how pathetic situation is. Any way now time has come for us to think twice about this. As well as it is the duty of the responsible authorities to find ways and means to minimize the harmful effects of T.V.
